Good leaders have a habit of making you feel like you are the most important thing in their lives at that moment.
The next time you meet folk and you think they might want to come to respect and appreciate you, please stop playing with your crackberry. You are capable of focussing your attention, right?
Being present creates presence. How will you be remembered for yours?

Wey Hey!! ……. Shadow of a Leader. This was the favourite phrase of Peter Erskine who I had the honour of working for at O2. Essentially, how you act as a leader casts a shadow and people will want to walk in that shadow. The bigger the shadow, the more people can walk with you.
He would utterly agree with you Doug and so do I. I am as guilty as anyone at doing my emails in meetings, sending texts while talking to people … the whole lot. But I have spent a lot of time recently trying to create my shadow and it does work but the best thing is it’s two-way. My team feel better and so do I.
Count me in!
Superb! Two great role models in one story. Thanks Chris and Peter 🙂
