Winged Heart I and II

I painted these two winged heart designs for Carole and Keira. They’re made using blends of red white and blue acrylic paint on watercolour paper. I like the rough texture of the paper and the off white colour of it goes well with the paint. Winged Heart I is a finger painting, and I used a brush for Winged Heart II.

Here are the paintings framed.

I enjoyed making these and I’m currently exploring how to turn these works in to a limited edition print run. I think they would be a good design for my Etsy shop. More news when I have it.

Warmth

I wanted to experiment further with the abstract ‘river’ patterns I’ve been playing with recently. My intention is to try different colours and materials too. I was curious to see how gold leaf would sit alongside acrylic paint, so I mixed up some reds and yellows and painted them randomly onto a pencil grid I marked out on this canvas board.

Once the paint had dried, I applied some gold leaf to a few of the coloured panels.

Here is a close up and another view with the canvas board titled so you can see the gold leaf more easily.

This painting has been sold in my Etsy shop, and a donation will be made to the Arts Emergency charity from the proceeds.

Update : March 7th 2016. I have received a photograph of the finished piece, safely in its new Californian home. Here it is.

Warmth - in situ

Wandle II – The DNA of a river

I enjoy my walks along sections of the River Wandle, and after my recent abstract painting ‘River Wandle‘ sold within minutes of going into my Etsy shop – I decided to revisit the idea.

This time I have scaled up from an A4 size work to this much larger 20″ x 16″ canvas.

Wandle II

I really like how this work has turned out and I am grateful that Carole suggested I leave some spaces in among all the colour. I’ve subsequently entered this painting and my drawing titled ‘Bookcases‘ into the 2016 Royal Academy Summer Exhibition. My entries are among a further 11,998 pieces of work so this is a long shot – but you’ll never get picked if you don’t enter. Fingers crossed!
