On my recent trip to Croyde Bay I found a small shell on the beach. It was packed with sand and I creafully eased all the grains out and thought, ‘I’ll paint that later. I put the tiny, fragile shell in my pocket and forgot about it.

When I got home a few days later the shell was still in my pocket and remarkably, still in once piece. It has been sitting on the desk for about a month until I took it outside into the wonderfully sunny weekend we’ve just had and painted it. The picture is postcard sized, the actual shell is less than 2cm long.

I realyl enjoyed sitting in the sun and painting this picture, and when I finished it I made a second version in blue. I hope you like them.

Learning to Paint – Camden Lock

Last Monday I spent a hugely enjoyable day aboard the Midnight Star. Huge thanks to Cap’n Glenn Le Santo and my wonderful crew mates. We boated up The Regent’s Canal from Limehouse Basin to Camden Lock. On arrival I painted a quick water colour sketch of the lock and footbridge. I had nowhere to mix colours up and boy does it show! Still – I’m committed to sharing everything I paint so here it is. Carole said she likes the way the image fades out around the edges 🙂

Learning to Paint – Record Sleeve

Last week I recorded a song at Never Records as part of the Merge Festival, two copies of which were then cut to vinyl right in front of my eyes. I’m still pinching myself. I get to keep one copy and the other goes into the Never Records project. Everyone who records at Never Records is invited to decorate the sleeve of their record so this weeks learning to paint is a rare chance to experiment with something which wil end up on display. Pardon me while I pinch myself again.

These pictures show the decorated sleeve front and back with the ‘before’ versions for comparison. I used acrylic paints, glitter paint and marker pens.
