This is the first of six postcards I painted whilst on holiday at Cagnes sur Mer, near Nice. This card was painted for Jay Kuhns and I added in a 51st star on the flag to represent him. I sketched the idea out first to get a sense of spacing. This is my first attempt at using acrylic paint. It dries very quickly and you can overlay colours more easily with acrylic than water colours, but merging and shading is (for me at least) almost impossible at this time.

Painting on Holiday

Following on from the recent birthday card drawing which I enjoyed making more than I first thought I would, I decided to continue the painting experiment. I was about to go away with Carole and Keira for a holiday on the Cote d’Azur and when we got there I tweeted an offer to paint a postcard for anyone who would like one. Six people kindly got in touch so I bought a few brushes in Nice and the experiment continued… Watch this space.
