Record Store Day : Free Art Drops

Saturday 21st April 2018 is Record Store Day in the UK. I’ve made some free art drops to mark the occasion. These are the first pieces of art I’ve made using acrylic sprays and stencils. Trust me, all the cutting is hard work! I think its been worth it though, and I’ll be hiding these in the local area over the weekend.

The vinyls have no obvious connection to the designs I made, with one exception. Happy Talk is sprayed on to a copy of South Pacific on the Music For Pleasure label. Captain Sensible covered this song, and the title of The Damned’s second album is…Music For Pleasure 😉

Update: I’ve added one more vinyl into the mix – heh heh.

Heartbreak Beat

A couple of weeks ago a few of us went to see The Psychedelic Furs at the O2 Forum. This was the first time I’d seem them for decades – and you wonder, don’t you…how are they going to sound after all this time?

The band were in great form, the gig and the company was excellent. Since the performance I’ve been revisiting some of the band’s music – and the song Heartbreak Beat keeps sticking in my mind.

I made this piece of art in response to the song title. The piece also hints at some of their mid-career visual imagery.

Elemental Art : Solar Flare

After a crazy busy few weeks making art in Berlin and taking part in the Carshalton Artists Open Studios, things are resuming a slightly more ‘normal’ pace. Having exhibited several elemental art pieces during the open studios, I’ve been wanting to return to making again, and I’ve been playing with a new design.

Here is the image, unmounted. It’s painted using watercolours, spray paint, acrylic, and gold leaf. With all the fine weather we’ve been enjoying lately, this feels like a timely new design in the series.
