We Are All Artists : 2018 Calendar

Eighteen months ago, someone who follows the free art project suggested I make a calendar. It was a good idea, and I didn’t get round to it. Wind forward a year and the same person kindly offered up the suggestion again. This time, I paid attention, and after several hours of curating, and playing with various online layout tools, I ordered a few proofs. My intention was to use the calendar as a fund raising opportunity, and because of this – the price of the finished product was a factor.

This version looks lovely, it is really well made and gave me a lot of design flexibility, however the price per unit was over £20 – well beyond what I figured people would pay. In the end I settled for a calendar which is good quality, and even though the layout design was fiddly, I managed to select twelve artworks which captured the local area and the spirit of the free art project.

I’m selling the calendar as above, in my Etsy shop for £17 plus P&P with a donation of £4 to Wallington Animal Rescue. Each calendar is signed and accompanied by a set of art notes to give each image more context. So far we’ve raised £148 for the charity, and I have a few calendars remaining. If you want some cool art on your wall and you’d like to support an excellent small charity doing great work – feel free to place an order. Thank you.

And what will become of the proof I showed you? That is being given away as part of the free art project, so if you live locally, keep an eye out for it.

Goodbye, Hello, and Thank You.

I spent last night at The Wallington Arms, along with most of the rest of the town if the crowds were anything to go by. It was the annual community awards night – a chance to meet folk, catch up with friends, hear some live music and celebrate some of the good work being done in the community.

Goodbye

I hid this piece of free art in the Christmas tree in the pub last night. It was found and is off to a new home. It’s a sketch I painted in 2012, one of my favourite early pieces. Parting with this work was a great reminder for me that I started the free art project to help me learn to let go.

Hello

I was fortunate to be part of the live music set up last night. Most people in the area who know me, do so through my free art. Last night gave me the opportunity to say hello in a different guise. I’m very nervous when it comes to musical performances and the crowd were really supportive. I played one of my favourites, City Of New Orleans, and Fairytale Of New York. Loads of people sang long with the second song, that was lovely to hear, thank you. Amelia played, and so did Chloe Ray and her band – great fun!

Thank You

The free art project was nominated in two award categories, and I came home with two runner up prizes. It is lovely to be recognised by your peers, particularly when it’s for doing something you love. Thank you very much to everyone who nominated and voted for me, I appreciate it very much. It was great to see fellow artist Jason Goldrick receive a nomination too, and well done to all the nominees and winners for your contribution, and the recognition you received. And finally, thank you to Carole and Keira who encourage me and give me the time and space to allow the free art project to breathe, and to develop. I couldn’t do it without you. xx.

A Parliament Of Owls

This week I hosted the latest We Are All Artists free art workshop. The event was held at The Wallington Arms and materials were kindly supplied by Arts Network Sutton.

One of the things on offer that evening was for our guests to make an owl drawing or painting, and contribute it to the free art project. Nine of our guests kindly obliged, so I now have a parliament of beautiful owls, waiting to be hidden in the local area.

You may have spotted there are in fact ten artworks here. I made one of them which has already been given away, I’ll do a remake for the art drop. Keep an eye out for these beautiful owls over the coming days.
