Tech #fail – Can you help?

I wonder if someone can help me please?

For a couple of months now I’ve been unable to comment on WordPress blogs. When I go to leave a comment I see this on screen.

Wordpress screengrab

My web support guy has no idea what is causing it, have you? It’s really bugging me as I really enjoy commenting on other folks’ blogs but for the time being – I can’t (at least not WordPress ones).

I have a WordPress account from when my blog was hosted by them and I have another account for my current blog (built on and not hosted by WordPress). The two worked along side each other fine for a couple of years and now this. The email addresses relating to both accounts are different.

Any thoughts/ideas/suggestions would be really appreciated. I want to rejoin your conversations.

  1. It’s Gravatar, and it’s a bit of an arse. Well, it’s kind of helpful, but a bit of an arse in that you never really “sign up”. The idea behind it is that it allows you to use a common user profile across different blogs.

WordPress and Gravatar share databases, so when you had your old wordpress hosted blog you would have been “signed up”. As you’re trying to comment using the same email it’s detecting this and trying to log you in.

    1. You super star! Well done and thank you Robert – this has stumped many folk up until now. Just wished I’d asked the Twitterverse sooner, a solution within the hour. Cheers! 😀

      1. I always say to our support staff that the easiest challenges you’ll face are the ones you’ve had to work through yourself in the past – luckily for you I was grappling with Gravatar issues just the other week! As soon as I saw the screenshot whilst lying in bed this morning I knew the solution 🙂
